Movies of the Moment – January 28, 2005

's another pretty slow weekend at . As we leave January and enter February, we should start seeing better movies enter the theatre.

This week we have some horror offerings coming out. Personally, I myself will be playing “Oscar Catch ” and catching Sideways. Anyways, here's the films.

Alone in
I only really just heard of the Video Game this movie is based on. I just watched the trailer an it looks like a cheap knock-off of Aliens. I don't think it would too big a loss if we miss this one.

Hide and Seek
This looks like a better movie than “Alone in the Dark” all the way. For this movie, Dakota Fanning has gone from “Too Cute” to “Too .” However, creepiess in the trailer doesn't necessary translate into creepiness in the movie. As such, I'm going to probably skip this one as well.

Aliens of the Deep
I thought I would give special mention to this new IMAX 3D film that's opening today. Boy has this Canadian-made film format changed other the years. When I was a kid, IMAX films were just these little half-hour documentaries that I would see at the Ontario Place Cinesphere, here in Toronto. Now, IMAX Theatres are all over North America and include feature-length films and, in films like Aliens of the Deep, 3D vision. So, if you have time, make sure to check out Aliens of the Deep, which, I believe, is James Cameron's final documentary before returning to feature films, and view the wonders of IMAX.
