Box Office Thoughts for the Weekend of November 7, 2008

In what’s probably a demonstration of the popularity of family films, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa opened at the top of the box office with an estimated $63.5M. The number is about $16M more than the first film made back in 2005.

In second place, Role Models estimated gross of $19.3M pales in comparison. The top film for the previous two weeks, High School Musical 3, dropped to third place with an estimated gross of $9.3M.

The only other new film to open in the top ten was Soul Men, which opened in sixth place with an estimated gross of $5.6M.

And that’s the box office thoughts for this week.
