DVD Thoughts: Zack and Miri Make a Porno – Two Disc Special Edition

zackandmiri dvd always does a good job at putting together a DVD for his films and Zack and Miri Make a Porno is no exception.

The first interesting feature is right on the packaging, where the version I purchased featured a scratch-and-sniff slip sleeve. The DVDs came in either “Sweet Cherry Pie” or “Minty Fresh Granny Panties” scents (I bought the former).

As for the DVD itself, the film was not re-edited into an unrated cut (which seems to be the standard with R-rated comedies these days). Instead the first disc seems to feature EVERY deleted scene/alternate take in the special features. There are so many, it would probably take the length of the film to watch them all.

The centrepeice of the second disc is a feature-length (about 75 minutes) documentary on the making of the film. This features a lot of interesting information about the film, including the fact that Kevin Smith was looking to cast after seeing him in The 40-Year-Old Virgin (and was actually a little disappointed that someone beat Smith to casting Rogen in a lead role, when Knocked Up was made).

The other features on the second disc include webisodes, the film's comic-con panel, a gag reel, and a feature featuring improvisation between Seth Rogen and .

Overall, the DVD matches the quality of Kevin Smith's previous releases. I also have to say that the feature length making-of was a plus, since those features usually never go for much more than 20-40 minutes.
