Movies of the Moment – May 2008

Iron Man was obviously one my picks for this month, so it will be omitted from this (late) column. Anyways, here are my picks for the first month of the summer movie season (from May 9 onwards).

Feature Film May 2008
indianaJones4PosterIndiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull – May 22
If they waited one more year, this film would have have been two days off of being released 20 years after the last instalment of the Indiana Jones series.

While it can be agreed that producer George Lucas lost some fans after the lukewarm reception of the Star Wars prequel trilogy, but with Steven Spielberg, we’re sure this will definitely be a much smoother ride.

Now if were only 100% sure what the plot is about….

Other Picks for the Month

Speed Racer – May 9
The only thing I really remember from the original anime cartoon (which I only watched once or twice) was the “Go Speed Racer Go” theme song. However, since this film is directed by the Wachowski brothers of Matrix fame, I’m looking forward to seeing this film (in IMAX) and getting visually blown away.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian – May 16
My knowledge of the The Chronicles of Narnia pretty much begins and ends with The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, so all the other movies will be a new experience for me. That said, I will be looking forward to checking this one out, even though it is not one of my top picks.

The Strangers – May 30
As I stated last Monday, I was pretty much sold on this film by its creepy trailer, and I will definitely be looking forward to some late-May chills.

Not Really Interested

What Happens in Vegas – May 9
The best movie Ashton Kutcher has made was Dude, Where’s My Car? and that’s not saying that much (even though I like that movie).

Sex and the City: The Movie – May 30
I am of the wrong gender to even be thinking of checking out this movie. I will be in the next theatre watching the horror film about home invaders.

And that’s my picks for the month.
