Toronto After Dark 2012 – My Picks of the Fest

Toronto After Dark Film Festival 2

We are mere days away from the start of the edition of the Toronto Dark Film Festival! Beginning on Thursday and continuing on to the 26th, Toronto After Dark will be invading the Bloor Cinema with the best of horror, action, sci-fi, and cult movies.  This will be fourth year attending the festival and this year's line- looks to be one of their strongest.  In advance of the festival, I thought I would talk about five of the twenty films I am most looking forward to seeing. grab p 1  Grabbers – Oct 18, 6:45pm I have Irish heritage, so you can be sure that I would be interested in the festival's opening film, which has bloodsucking aliens invading an Irish town.  Of course, the townfolk find out that they become poisonous to the aliens the more drunk they are.  While this definitely plays up the Irish stereotype of them being drunks, I'm sure this will be a very fun film. rec3 i 2 REC 3: Genesis – Oct 20, 6:45pm The third entry of the Spanish zombie series moves somewhat away from the -footage premise of the previous two films.  Instead, the film features a zombie invasion at a wedding, which will include a chainsaw-wielding bride.  This is definitely one of the biggest films playing at this year's festival and will definitely be fun to watch it as part of “Zombie Appreciation Night.” doom i 6 Doomsday Book – Oct 21, 1:00pm While it may be playing in the middle of the afternoon, this Korean apocalypse anthology seems to be a perfect fit for the 2012 festival.  This film might end up being one of the sleeper hits of the festival. amity p 2 My Amityville Horror –  Oct 23. 6:45pm While famous as a 1977 book, which inspired a 1979 film, The Amityville Horror was reportedly based on a true haunted house experience.  This documentary tracks down Daniel Lutz, who recalls the paranormal experience his family had when he was only a kid.  I'm very much looking forward to this film. fanfear i 2 A Fantastic Fear of Everything – Oct 26, 6:45pm Last, but not least, we have this film that has playing a writer that is literally afraid of everything.  This is a film that stood out for me in the line-up since the very beginning and I am sure that it will kick off the closing night with a bang.
And those are my picks of the 2012 Toronto After Dark Film Festival.  Watch out tomorrow for a fun little game you can play during the festival.
