Box Office Thoughts for the Weekend of June 19, 2009

TheProposalPosterThe romantic comedy The Proposal was the top film for the weekend with a gross of $33.6M. This knocks The Hangover down from its two week perch at the top.

The other new film of the week Year One, also a comedy, didn’t fare as well, opening at fourth place with a gross of $19.6M.

The fact that The Proposal beat Year One seems to suggest that the female-centric crowd for The Proposal overtook the male-centric Year One crowd.

Rounding off the thoughts for this week, the Woody Allen comedy Whatever Works opened on only 9 screen in twentieth place with a gross of $266K.

And that’s the box office thoughts for this week.
