Prometheus (09/06/2012)

Ridley Scott’s return to science fiction in 30 years began as a sort of prequel to Alien that expanded the backstory of the origins of the mysterious ship where the alien creatures were originally found. Indeed those prequel elements are still very much present within Prometheus.  However, it seems that Scott decided all but severe the […]

A Dangerous Method (13/01/2012)

I’m started to head into the cream of the crop of the Canada’s Top Ten selection.  A Dangerous Method is of course the latest film by David Cronenberg.  The very fact that the film is directed Cronenberg might affect the opinions of some from an auteuristic point of view.  On it’s the own, I thought that […]

Shame (04/12/2011)

Let me start by saying that I thought that Shame was a really good film.  The film does have very strong sexual content, which makes it a little difficult to watch at times (and it’s not really passive entertainment). That said, I thought that overall the film was absolutely enthralling, with excellent performances by Michael Fassbender […]

X-Men: First Class (04/06/2011)

It’s been a little over 11 years since X-Men became the first successful adaptation of a Marvel comic property and spawned a decade long craze in comic book films. X-Men: First Class can be both described as a prequel and reboot to the original series.  For people who only know X-Men from the previous films, they would only really […]

Jonah Hex (19/06/2010)

A good way I would describe Johan Hex is that the film came off as Ghost Rider without any of Nicolas Cage‘s charisma.  I was quite bored for the bulk of the film, which featured a formulaic plot that was over before you know it. There are the fact that Megan Fox was in the […]

Inglourious Basterds (28/08/2009)

It took more than a decade for Inglourious Basterds to get made and I have to say that it is quite possibly the best film Quentin Tarantino has directed since Pulp Fiction. While the marketing for the film focuses on Brad Pitt and his band of Nazi-killing soldiers, the film is really an ensemble piece […]

300 (11/03/2007)

It’s late, I’m tired, I’ll make this brief. I thought 300 was not only visually stunning, but it had a pretty decent story too. Also, even though it was hyperviolent, the violence was made to look similar to what it would look in the pages on a comic book (since, of course, the film is […]
