A father and daughter bond while participating in a race across Norway in Børning. Roy (Anders Baasmo Christiansen) is a racer and mechanic, who doesn't the closest of relationships with his 12 year old daughter Nina (Ida Husøy). After losing a big race, Roy is taunted by his rival TT (Trond Halbo), which results in a challenge to a race across the the entirety of the Norwegian coastline. Børning begins with a dedication of deceased director and stunt coordinator Hal Needham, who "mixed movies and cars and made it fun." That is precisely the description that can be applied to Børning, which is just an old school racing movie. At the centre of Børning is the father-daughter relationship between Roy and Nina. In the film's opening prologue, Nina was born following a car crash, which soured things between Roy and Nina's mother. Even though Nina has become quite knowledgeable about cars, Roy still keeps his distance. However, when she forcibly joins her father on the race, the two of them are forced to bond. With influences ranging from The Cannonball Run to the Fast & Furious series, Børning is essentially one long street race, as the cars go at top speeds along the hilly roads of Norway, all while avoiding being caught by the police. The film isn't particularly all that deep plotwise, even though there are some mini side stories involving the other racers, as well as various antics to get past police roadblocks. When it is all said and done, Børning is a pretty enjoyable Norwegian racing film. ★ ★ ★ ★ | LIKED IT
