This year was a major turning point for the Blood in the Snow Canadian Film Festival, as it celebrated its fifth anniversary and moved to its new location at the Cineplex Yonge and Dundas. While there with a few hiccups this year, such as the cancellation of a live TV special and one of the screenings being plagued by sound problems, this was still a very successful year for the festival.
Here are my favourite films of the festival, along with the official award winners.

It is time for the eighth entry in my year-long series in which I revisit some of the most classic films to be released 30 years ago in the year 1982 (the year of my birth). This month I will be discussing a film that was, at the time, revolutionary for its use of computer-generated…
One of my gifts during the holidays was The Bourne Trilogy box set. The only one of the three films I saw in theatres, was The Bourne Ultimatum, though I saw the rest prior. In re-watching The Bourne Identity, I found that it is both good as a stand alone film, while also leaving enough…
Yesterday was TIFF single ticket day. It is always a stressful day for festival goers, who opt to purchase their tickets separately, instead of getting mutli-film packages. Those coming to the box office in person have to deal with multi-hour waits in line, while those ordering on line have to contend with server issues and…
Today’s DVD post is going to be different than what I usually do, since today’s acquisition ends nearly six months of frustration. You see, there was this little Welsh comedy called Submarine that I saw at TIFF in 2010. It was quite a charming little film and I ended up naming it my second favourite film…
The most compelling of the new DVD releases this week for me is JCVD (also on Blu-Ray). I thought that the film worked as good reflection on the career of Jean-Claude Van Damme and definitely works at bringing him back into the spotlight. The more mainstream fare released this week includes Bride Wars (also on…
Well it’s my 23rd birthday this weekend, and I am not sure if I would make the trek to the megaplex for it. However here’s this week’s releases anyway. Fever PitchOther than the fact that they can’t hide the fact that scenes were filmed in my hometown of Toronto (Queen’s Park is very recognizable), this…
