Zack Snyder’s Justice League (23/03/2021)

Zack Snyder’s Justice League is being reviewed as an independent entity from the theatrical cut. For my original thoughts, you can check out my original review from November 2017. A little background, for the uninformed: In May 2017, while his Justice League film was beginning post-production, Zack Snyder decided to step down as director, following the […]

Justice League (19/11/2017)

The world’s heroes team together to fight an invading threat in Justice League. As the world recovers from the death of Superman (Henry Cavill), a new threat arises in the form of the invading Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds), who comes to Earth looking for the Mother Boxes, which will allow him to take over the planet. Batman […]

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (27/03/2016)

The Dark Knight holds a vengeful vendetta against the Man of Steel in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Two years have past since the world was introduced to Superman (Henry Cavill). Despite being hailed as a savior by many, there are some concerned with the collateral damage he frequently leaves behind. One of those […]

Doc of the Dead (11/07/2014)

From director Alexandre Philippe (The People vs. George Lucas) comes this examination of the evolution of the zombie in film and literature, as well as its impact on pop culture.  Zombies began as voodoo creations in films, such as 1932’s White Zombie, before being reinvented as the living dead in George A. Romero’s The Night […]

300: Rise of an Empire (09/03/2014)

The battle between the Greeks and Persians continues with 300: Rise of an Empire. While the 300 Spartans are off fighting against the “God king” Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro), an army of Athenian warriors, lead by Themistokles (Sullivan Stapleton), fights a water-bound battle against Greek-born Persian naval officer Artemisia (Eva Green).  Themistokles has a personal burden […]

Man of Steel (15/06/2013)

Seven years after he last graced the big screen, Superman returns with a new film, produced by Christopher Nolan (the Dark Knight trilogy) and directed by Zack Snyder (Watchmen), that reboots DC comic’s’ signature hero.  The overall story remains the same:  With the planet Krypton on the verge of destruction, Jor-El (Russell Crowe) sends his […]

Stories We Tell (06/01/2013)

Sarah Polley has been in the spotlight for pretty much her entire life.  She began as a child actress and is known by many for her role on the CBC series Road to Avonlea.  As an adult, she was one known for mostly indie and Canadian films (aside from a starring role in Zack Snyder’s […]

Sucker Punch (26/03/2011)

After getting known for his remake of Dawn of the Dead and adaptations of the graphic novels 300 and Watchmen, Zach Snyder comes out with his first original story (which still looks like it could have come from a graphic novel). The film has a (literally) layered story about a young woman, nicknamed Babydoll, who is (somewhat […]

Moon (03/07/2009)

I have to say that Moon is probably one of the best science fiction films I have seen in years. The entire film focuses on Sam Rockwell‘s character Sam Bell (and the on-board computer voiced by Kevin Spacey) and you can really feel the sense of isolation. Things shake up a bit when another individual […]

Watchmen (11/03/2009)

After about two decades in development hell, a film adaptation of the acclaimed graphic novel Watchmen finally comes out. I found the movie to have a bit of a slow start, with the bulk of the first half dealing with the character’s back stories. However, once the action picked up in the second half, I […]

300 (11/03/2007)

It’s late, I’m tired, I’ll make this brief. I thought 300 was not only visually stunning, but it had a pretty decent story too. Also, even though it was hyperviolent, the violence was made to look similar to what it would look in the pages on a comic book (since, of course, the film is […]
