Hot Docs 2018: Transformer Wins Audience Award

Transfomer

At the conclusion of the 25th edition of the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, it was reported that Michael Del Monte’s Transformer was the winner of both the Rogers Audience Award for Best Canadian Documentary and the overall Hot Docs Audience Award. As winner of the former award, Michael Del Monte with a $50,000 cash prize courtesy of the Rogers Group of Funds.

I had a chance to talk with both Michael Del Monte and subject Janae Marie Kroczaleski earlier in the festival. According to Del Monte, his ultimate goal for Transformer was to create some good healthy dialogue around transgender people, which has become such a politicized project in recent years. Aside from the transgender element, Janae notes that the film is just really about her struggling to find out who she was and how to be happy, which is something that everyone can relate to.

My full interview with Michael Del Monte and Janae Marie Kroczaleski will be posted closer to the film’s regular release, but congratulates goes to Transformer for its Audience Award win.
