Movie Pirating Blues

It’s a sad time to be a movie fan in Canada.

Warner Bros. just announced that they are going to stop showing advance screenings of their films in Canada.

It was previously reported that 20th Century Fox is threatening to delay and/or stop the release of their films in this country.

This is all because Canada is apparently where 50-70% of camcordered films are made.

I might think that this is a bit of an overreaction.

First of all, the piracy claims have been called mostly fiction.

Second, do studios really think it’s going to solve the piracy problem by preventing EVERYONE to see their films? I can get what Warner Bros is doing by not showing the film before its start date. However, what Fox is threatening will most definitely cause many people to hate the studio. Just because of a few incidents (mostly in Montreal), Fox is wanting to punish the WHOLE COUNTRY. Personally, if Fox (or any other studio) decides to delay the release of their films in Canada, I’ll probably just end up boycotting the studio all together.

Yeah, it’s definitely not the best time to be a movie fan in Canada.
