Movies of the Moment – February 25, 2005

With the Oscars this Sunday, it will definitely be a busy weekend for the movie buffs out there. For those of you who are thinking of going to the cinema, before the big show, here is a rundown of the new releases.

Man of the House
Compared to the other major release this week, there is nothing much to be said about Tommy ‘ latest outing. Personally, I don’t really care much out it.

Cursed
What ISN’T there to say about Wes Craven’s latest film? First this film was announced in late-2002, with filming scheduled to start in January 2003 for a August 2003 release date. A delay in the start of production, moved the release date to February 2004. Then, after Miramax was unsatisfied with how the film turned out, major reshoots were made in November 2003, which resulted in quite a bit of the supporting cast being replaced. The release date was then changed to last October, though it was later moved to this week to avoid the Halloween Horror Movie Rush. Finally, as icing on the cake (and proof that my earlier post was true), Miramax made Wes Craven cut the movie down from an R to a PG-13 rating (you’ll bet Miramax would make a bundle on the unrated DVD). With all those production problems (and the fact that Miramax didn’t screen the film for critics), I think everybody is prepared to send this movie straight to hell with out giving it a proper chance. It’s a pity really.
