Box Office Thoughts for the Weekend of March 20, 2009

Knowing PosterSorry for the column being so late this week.

All three major new releases opened in the top three last weekend. The top film was actually the poorest reviewed of the three, with Knowing making a gross of $24.6M.

I Love You, Man opened in second place with a gross of $17.8M and Duplicity was in third with a gross of $14M.

Last week’s top film, Race to Witch Mountain, dropped to fourth place with a gross of $12.8M.

Watchmen added only an additional $6.8M last weekend, dropping a further 61.8%. It still looks likely to pass the $100M, however it will probably not end up making a huge profit.

And that’s the box office thoughts for this week.
