I briefly interrupt my Hot Docs coverage to report the sad news that British actor Bob Hoskins has passed away at the age of 71. Hoskins will always be most remembered by me as private investigator Eddie Valiant from the 1988 film Who Framed Roger Rabbit. He is also the man who got to play Super Mario on the big screen in the, not so well remembered, 1993 film adaptation of Super Mario Brothers. Hoskins only received a single Oscar nomination for his leading role in Neil Jordan’s 1986 film Mona Lisa. It was less than two years ago that Bob Hoskins retired from acting, following a diagnosis of Parkinson’s. He will be missed.
