I’m a few days late, but it wouldn’t be right for me not to pay my respects to actor John Hurt, who passed away on Friday at the age of 77. The British character actor had a career that dated back to the early 1960s, though Hurt is probably most well known for his role of Kane in Ridley Scott’s Alien, with the character being the unfortunate victim of a chestburster. John Hurt has been nominated for two Academy Awards, first for Best Supporting Actor in 1979 for Midnight Express and then a Best Actor nomination in 1981 for playing the titular character in David Lynch‘s The Elephant Man. Some other notable roles for John Hurt includes Michael Radford’s Nineteen Eighty-Four, Guillermo del Toro’s Hellboy, and Bong Joon Ho’s Snowpiercer. John Hurt will most definitely be missed.
Here are some clips from throughout John Hurt’s career:
Alien (1979) – Warning: Contains Violence
The Elephant Man (1980)
Nineteen Eighty-Four (1984)
Dead Man (1995)
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, Part 2 (2011)
