R.I.P. Leonard Nimoy

mr-spock Fans of Star Trek are now in mourning, as it is being reported that has died at the age of 83.  Nimoy is of course best known for playing Mr. Spock on the original 1966-69 television series, a role which he reprised in eight feature films (including the two recent films by ).  Nimoy was also a cast member of the original Mission: Impossible television series for its fourth and fifth seasons and also had a recurring role as the mysterious Dr. William Bell on J.J. Abrams’ television series Fringe. While mostly known for his association with the Star Trek franchise, Nimoy has also had many other notable film roles over the course of his career, including the 1978 remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers and voicing Galvatron in 1986’s Transformers: The Movie. While he retired from full time acting in 2010, Nimoy still made brief appearances, with his final role fittingly being a reprisal of Spock Prime in 2013’s Star Trek into Darkness. NimoyFanExpo I had the pleasure of briefly glimpsing Leonard Nimoy in person at Fan Expo in 2009, which I believe was the final time he appeared at a Toronto convention.  I have been a big Star Trek fan since childhood and I always viewed Spock as the signature character from the original series (even more so than Captain Kirk).  Even though Nimoy will most definitely be missed, it can also be generally agreed that he indeed lived long and prospered. As has become customary for these obituary posts, here are some key Leonard Nimoy film clips (most of them from the Star Trek films): Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)
Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)
