A heartbroken man receives a cosmic offer in a rest-stop washroom in Glorious. Wes (Ryan Kwanten) is driving off after a heartbreaking split with his girlfriend Brenda (Sylvia Grace Crim). Stopping off at a rest stop, Wes goes on an all-night bender, entering the dirty washroom the following day to vomit. While in the toilet, Wes hears a voice (J.K. Simmons) through a glory hole in the next stall claiming to be an ancient god. Wes is told that there is an essential plan for him with dire consequences if he doesn’t do what he’s asked to perform.
Glorious is a Lovecraftian horror film directed by genre journalist and podcaster Rebekah McKendry. The film stars Ryan Kwanten (True Blood, Dead Silence) as a man named Wes at a crossroads in life following a horrible break-up. Wes finds himself trapped in a rest-stop washroom with a supposed god nicknamed Ghat, wonderfully voiced by J.K. Simmons. Ghat tells Wes that he must take responsibility for his actions and do a simple task or risk the extermination of all humanity.
Glorious is an exceptionally well-crafted single-location horror film, which predominantly consists of Ryan Kwanten on his own reacting towards a voice coming from a glory hole. It is perfect casting to have J.K. Simmons voice the ancient god Ghat, who is relatable but can be pretty scary when he has to be. I don’t want to give away the many twists of this film, but I will say that Glorious is a fine piece of Lovecraftian horror.
