Growing up in the Ontario city of Orillia, Gordon Lightfoot had his beginnings playing in the coffeehouses in Toronto’s Yorkville neighbourhood. This would eventually lead to him signing with Warner Bros and becoming one of the most successful Canadian musicians of all time.
Now in his 80s, Gordon Lightfoot is still going strong more than 60 years into his career. In Gordon Lightfoot: If You Could Read My Mind, filmmakers Martha Kehoe and Joan Tosoni have unprecedented access to Lightfoot at his home and gets the stories behind his hit songs, such as “In the Early Morning Rain,” “Song for a Winter’s Night,” “Sundown,” “Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald,” and of course “If You Could Read My Mind.” The film also features interviews with the members of Rush, The Guess Who, as well as Sarah McLachlan, Anne Murray, and actor Alec Baldwin.
