A social media star’s new friendship while vacationing in Thailand takes a dark turn in Influencer. Madison (Emily Tennant) is a famous social media influencer on vacation in Thailand who is distraught over the absence of her boyfriend and manager, Ryan (Rory J. Saper). Madison ends up meeting CW (Cassandra Naud), who helps Madison to experience the parts of Thailand that she wouldn’t otherwise experience. However, when CW takes Madison to a deserted island, the former’s true nature is revealed.
Influencer is a thriller co-written and directed by Kurtis David Harder (Spiral, Fake Blood, V/H/S/94). The film stars Emily Tennant (Riverdale) as social media influencer Madison, who games a new friend in CW, played by Cassandra Naud (Snowpiercer, SEE). While appearing as a carefree, independent woman, CW has ulterior motives for befriending both Madison and fellow influencer Jessica (Sara Canning).
Influencer is a film that features many Hitcockian twists, making it very difficult to talk about past events from the first act. However, the film is quite critical of social media culture and how influencers are so shallow and almost indistinguishable from each other. Cassandra Naud gives a standout performance as CW, who turns out to be somewhat unhinged, though you can relate to her motivations.
