I figured that for my second year doing the blindspot series, I would go for a theme. A few months ago, I purchased the book 101 Cult Movies You Should See Before You Die and I figured that I would choose every film I see this year for the blindspot series from that book. In choosing the cult films that I would see, I wanted as least one film from every decade featured in the book. Also, the weirder the film, the better. So without ado, here is the list I’ve chosen (in chronological order) for “Blindspot: The Cult of 2013:”
-
Reefer Madness (Louis Gasnier, 1936)
-
The Blob (Irvin S. Yeaworth Jr, 1958)
-
Plan 9 From Outer Space (Ed Wood, 1959)
-
Barbarella (Roger Vadim, 1968)
-
Harold and Maude (Hal Ashby, 1971)
-
Pink Flamingos (John Waters, 1972)
-
The Warriors (Walter Hill, 1979)
-
This is Spinal Tap (Rob Reiner, 1984)
-
The Toxic Avenger (Michael Herz and Lloyd Kaufman, 1984)
-
Dead Alive (Braindead) (Peter Jackson, 1992)
-
Run Lola Run (Tom Tykwer, 1998)
-
Hedwig and the Angry Inch (John Cameron Mitchell, 2001)
While, I have yet to decide on the final order I watch these films, I do know that I will be kicking this series off next week with Ed Wood’s Plan 9 From Outer Space.
