I never ever watched The Green Hornet TV series (with the exception of the character crossing over to the Batman series, which was by the same producers) and I only really knew the basics of the character. In fact, it was only recently that I found out that the character began as a 1930s radio serial, as opposed to a comic book (which came later).
A film adaptation of the character began many years ago when Kevin Smith was set to write and direct. That fell through and eventually the project switched to Seth Rogen and his writing partner Evan Goldberg, with Michel Gondry directing.
Rogen’s involvement has made the film much more of a comedy than it might have otherwise been. That said, I still found the film to be quite entertaining. Even the 3D effects were somewhat decent (mostly in the fight scenes), even though it was an obvious post-conversion.
Overall, I have to say that I was happy with the film
