The taping of a New Year’s Eve special leads to insanity in . As disgruntled ex-employees protest outside, an extravagant New Year’s Eve special has been filming at a television network for over a week, even though it’s only October. Throughout the course of this night, egos and insanity ensues, including the bickering celebrity couple Roberto () and Cristina (), who are hosting the event, the rival singers Adán () and Alphonso () deciding when to perform, wannabe assassin Oscar (), and extra José’s () budding relationship with accident-prone bad luck charm Paloma ().

My Big Night is the latest film from Spanish filmmaker Álex de la Iglesia (The Last Circus, Witching & Bitching). Taking place over the course of one insane New Year’s Eve taping, there is quite a lot going on over the course of this night. This includes a number of heavily-produced musical numbers, including the heavily sexual fireman song by Adán or the headlining performance by legendary divo Alphonso, who is played by real-life Spanish singer Raphael.

It can be argued that My Big Night is one of Álex de la Iglesia’s more accessible films, since it has the insane dark comedy that he is known for, without the extreme violence of his previous efforts. However, that still doesn’t mean that there still aren’t people in this film who end up with cranes falling on their heads or mobs tipping over production vans. Altogether, My Big Night is some quite enjoyable New Year’s insanity.
