Let Me In Q&A with Matt Reeves and Kodi Smit-McPhee |
I saw my first two films of the festival last night with the back-to-back horror films of Let Me In and John Carpenter’s The Ward.
Let Me In
As you may know this is the North American remake of the 2008 Swedish vampire film Let the Right One In. I have to say that the film is about 90% the same as the original and even though it was a decent film, I would probably pick the original over the remake.
8/10
The film was followed by a brief Q&A featuring director Matt Reeves and star Kodi Smit-McPhee
Cast of The Ward |
John Carpenter’s The Ward
This film, which was my first proper Midnight Madness screening, was John Carpenter’s first film in nearly a decade. It deals with a girl who is admitted into a psychiatric ward and is tormented by the ghost of a former patient who is killing off the other patients in the ward.
The film is much better than Carpenter’s last film Ghosts of Mars, however it still has its flaws with a bit of an over-reliance on jump scares and slightly laughable ghost make-up. Still a decent film though.
7/10
Most of the cast were in attendance for a Q&A, however John Carpenter was unable to make it to the city due to him being chosen for jury duty. He still introduced the film through a (humourous) recorded message.
