Rounding Up Canada’s Top Ten 2011

ctt 1

Last night TIFF announced the films that will part of their yearly celebration of the best in Canadian cinema. I do have to say that it is a very interesting list.  There are some obvious selections, such as ‘s A Dangerous Method and ‘s Take This Waltz.  However, there are also some surprising choices, most notably being the inclusion of Hobo with a Shotgun (which is one of only two films in the list I’ve already seen, the other being Ken Scott’s Starbuck)

Here is the full feature list and screening times.  Since TIFF doesn’t officially rank the films, I’m going to order the films based on how much I want to see them (with the ones I already saw being at the end).

Features:

  1. A Dangerous Method (David Cronenberg) – January 12 – 7:00pm
  2. Take This Waltz (Sarah Polley) – January 14 – 9:00pm, January 15 – 3:00pm
  3. Keyhole (Guy Maddin) – January 6 – 7:00pm, January 7 – 4:00pm
  4. Edwin Boyd (Nathan Morlando) – January 6 – 9:30pm, January 8 – 3:00pm
  5. Café de flore (Jean-Marc Vallée) – January 13 – 9:00pm, January 15 – 5:30pm
  6. Monsieur Lazhar (Philippe Falardeau) – January 5 – 8:00pm, January 6 – 4:00pm
  7. Marécages (Guy Edoin) – January 11 – 7:00pm, January 12 – 3:00pm
  8. Le Vendeur (Sébastien Pilote) – January 14 – 6:00pm, January 15 – 12:00pm
  9. Hobo With A Shotgun (Jason Eisener) – January 7 – 9:00pm, January 10 – 4:00pm
  10. Starbuck (Ken Scott) – January 10 – 7:00pm, January 11 – 3:00pm, January 13 – 3:00pm
(Note: Never got around to reviewing Starbuck, but I will say that it’s well worth seeing and I would have given it an 8/10)
Here are the films that will be included in the Canada’s Top Ten shorts programme.
Shorts Programme A – January 8 – 7:00pm
  • ORA (Philippe Baylaucq)
  • Hope (Pedro Pires)
  • We Ate the Children Last (We Ate the Children Last)

Shorts Programme B – January 8 – 8:30pm
