This Weekend in Movies – August 14, 2009

After an extensive viral-marketing campaign, District 9 arrives in theatres this week. The documentary-style sci-fi film currently has a very impressive 92% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and seems posed to become the sleeper hit of the summer.

Also doing well is the anime film Ponyo, which has a 96% Fresh rating.

This crowed weekend is rounded out with Band Slam (75% Fresh), The Time Traveler’s Wife (43% Fresh), The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard (17% Fresh), and the documentary It Might Get Loud (74% Fresh).
