The TIFF Docs selection at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival was announced today, with the opening film being the World Premiere of Michael Moore‘s Fahrenheit 11/9. The title of the film is both a play on Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11 and a reference to the November 9, 2016 election of Donald Trump. You can expect this film to be quite provocative, featuring Moore’s unique brand of left wing humour.
Another highlight of the TIFF Docs selection is the North American premiere of Errol Morris‘ American Dharma, which profiles Trump adviser Steve Bannon. The ever interesting Werner Herzog, along with co-director André Singer, returns to TIFF with his new documentary Meeting Gorbachev, featuring intimate conversations with the former Soviet head of state. Another TIFF Docs highlight is Quincy, a profile of legendary music producer Quincy Jones, co-directed by his daughter Rashida Jones, along with Alan Hicks. A TIFF Docs selection wouldn’t seem complete without a new observational piece by Frederick Wiseman, with him returning this year with Monrovia, Indiana, a profile of a small town that tilted the 2016 election. Also in the category of epic length documentaries is the return of filmmaker and historian Mark Cousins with his new film Women Make Film: A New Road Movie Through Cinema.
