Throughout the week, I created separate top ten list to give credit to films that otherwise wouldn’t have made the cut for my overall list.
It was an interesting experiment and I may consider making the week-long top ten lists an annual thing.
Now without further ado, here are my top ten films of 2008!
Mike Leigh has create a fun little celebration of optimism that will make you feel good every time you see it.
After seemingly disapeering off the face of the earth, Jean-Claude Van Damme returns in this film, which provides an exploration of what exactly Van Damme accomplished in his career.
It is hard to believe that British director Danny Boyle created this India-set drama that helps you to believe in destiny.
Pixar has changed the state of animated films forever with this film about a memorable little robot. This film crosses lines between a traditional animated family film with science fiction and romance.
Canadian director Bruce McDonald takes inspiration from Orson Welles‘ War of the Worlds broadcast to create this isolated little Zombie film.
After many misteps, Guy Ritchie made a successful return to the formula that made him famous and it was definitely a fun ride.
The effects in this film are great and the story is touching. David Fincher has surprised with this one.
It is amazing to watch Frank Langella and Michael Sheen go at it in this film. I am sure this will be one to beat at the Oscars.
It is possible that Christopher Nolan has created the film that will be known as one of the most successful comicbook films ever made. It has to say something when a film like this gets Oscar buzz.
This is not my top film just because I am a fan of professional wrestling. It is a powerful character study of a man that can’t seem to find a normal life outside of the squared circle.
In a world where real-life wrestler’s die before their time, this film can be viewed as a cautionary tale.
It will be a shame if Mickey Rourke doesn’t at least get a Best Actor nomination for the film.
Until next year!!
