What I Watched – October 5-November 1

WhatIWatched 3

I have fallen a bit behind on this column, so I’m going to try my best this week to catch up.  As always, you can see my film-watching activity, as it happens, over on Letterboxd. Here’s What I Watched:

  • October HorrorFest: Corpse Bride – Rewatch (DVD) – Not horror per-se, but it was a good film to watch before Frankenweenie
  • Taken – Rewatch (DVD) – Watched in preparation for the sequel
  • Brick – Rewatch (DVD) – Watched because of Looper
  • October HorrorFest: Kill List – First Viewing (Netflix) – Interesting in how it gets darker as it progresses
  • Frankenweenie – First Viewing (Cinema) – Absolutely loved this film

  • The Story of Film: An Odyssey – First Viewing (Cinema) – I’m going to list this once, though I watched episodes 5-10 over 3 screenings
  • Detropia – First Viewing (Cinema) – I was mildly underwhelmed by this doc and never got around to writing about it
  • October HorrorFest: Daybreakers – Rewatch (Blu-Ray) – The first and last acts are great.  The middle is a bit meh.
  • Taken 2 – First Viewing (Cinema) – Didn’t have the same charm as the first.
  • Prometheus – Rewatch (Blu-Ray) – Quite like this film.
  • Seven Psychopaths – First Viewing (Cinema) – This will definitely be on my top ten of the year.
  • October HorrorFest: Grave Encounters – First Viewing (CinemaNow) – Watched in preparation for the sequel at Toronto After Dark
  • October HorrorFest: The Rite – Rewatch (OnDemand) – really hams it up in this one
  • Toronto After Dark – First Viewings (Cinema) – To keep my sanity (and to keep the list short), I’m listing the whole fest as one entity
  • From Russia with Love – First Viewing (Cinema) – Definitely the most no thrills Bond film.
  • Goldfinger – Rewatch (Cinema) – Definitely my favourite Bond film
  • The Rocky Horror Picture Show – Rewatch (Cinema) – I’ve experienced a Rocky Horror midnight screening and I have no aspirations to do so again.
  • The Exorcist – First Viewing (Cinema) – The effects are now cartoony, but I can see why this is considered a classic.
  • October HorrorFest: PoltergeistFirst Viewing (CinemaNow) – Definitely a Spielbergian horror film
  • October HorrorFest: The Innkeepers – Rewatch (Blu-Ray) – Quickly becoming a favourite
  • October HorrorFest: Trick ‘r Treat – Rewatch (DVD) – Has been a Halloween tradition since it was released
  • Creepshow – First Viewing (Cinema) – Definitely a great film to watch on Halloween night
