Box Office Thoughts for the Weekend of July 3, 2009

As the estimates were released for this weekend, both Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen were tied for first with an estimated gross of $42.5M on the dot.

I knew that it was too inconceivable for BOTH movies to truly have such a round number as their gross, as such I would have to wait until the final grosses were released before finding out, who the true top film was.

When the smoke clear and the final grosses were announced, it was confirmed that Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was number one for the second week in a row with a final gross of $42.3M, which was very close to the estimate.

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs’ gross was the one the ended up being off, as the final earnings ended up being $41.7M.

And that’s the box office thoughts for this week.
