Tonight is the 89th annual Academy Awards and it seems like the focus will be on anything but the films themselves. For the first time since 2003, when the ceremony went on despite the start of the war in Iraq, the political climate is probably going to be front and centre this year. Despite, all that I am now going to make my best guess on what films will be walking away with awards this evening.
Best Picture: La La Land
While there are many people rooting for Moonlight, which just swept the Independent Spirit Awards, I am fairly certain that La La Land is going to rule the night tonight, especially with it being an escapist film in a dark world.
Directing: Damien Chazelle, La La Land
See above.
Writing (Original Screenplay): La La Land
Yeah, I’m calling a La La Land sweep
Writing (Adapted Screenplay): Moonlight
This will probably be one of the few that Moonlight wins.
Actor in a Leading Role: Casey Affleck, Manchester by the Sea
Aside from the controversy surrounding his personal life, Casey Affleck has won pretty much every pre-Oscar award, so it’s safe to say that he’ll be getting it here.
Actor in a Supporting Role: Mahershala Ali, Moonlight
This is probably the most difficult of the acting categories to pick, so I’ll just go with the one everybody is rooting for.
Actress in a Leading Role: Emma Stone, La La Land
As great as it would be for Isabelle Huppert to pull an upset, I believe that this one will probably go to Emma Stone.
Actress in a Supporting Role: Viola Davis. Fences
There are many deserving performances in this category, but I’ll go with the performance that has already won a number of awards.
That wraps up my predictions in the major categories, here are the rest:

-
