It is time for the 88th annual Academy Awards. This has been a very controversial year for the awards show, with many black actors planning to boycott over the fact that are the nominees are predominantly white. However, with Chris Rock hosting the show, it should still be an entertaining night. I also hope to do well with my predictions, which seemed to be quite easy to make this year. So, without further ado, here are my predictions for the 88th annual Academy Awards.
Best Picture: The Revenant
As awesome as it would be to see something like Mad Max: Fury Road win the big prize, I think it’s safe to say that The Revenant is probably the most deserving of the bunch. It fact, the films only serious competition comes from Spotlight, which hasn’t really been heard of much doing the award season.
Directing: Alejandro G. Iñárritu, The Revenant
Alejandro G. Iñárritu will win back-to-back Oscars and likely will be free to make whatever he wants for the rest of his career.
Writing (Original Screenplay): Ex Machina
If I was the one nominating the films, I would have given more nominations to Ex Machina. Since it is undoubtedly an original film, I am choosing it to win for screenplay.
Writing (Adapted Screenplay): Room
Even though it was The Big Short that picked up the WGA award, I have a feeling that Room is going to win this one.
Actor in a Leading Role: Leonardo DiCaprio, The Revenant
I am not one of those people, who are saying that Leo is due for an Oscar. However, when I look at the people nominated this year, I will say that he has the best shot of actually winning this year, unless of course Bryan Cranston gets the upset.
Actor in a Supporting Role: Sylvester Stallone, Creed
In a perfect world, Mark Rylance would seen a shoe-in for his performance in Bridge of Spies. However, Stallone will likely be getting a career-capping Oscar tonight.
Actress in a Leading Role: Brie Larson, Room
While she might seem like an underdog compared to who she is up against, it is pretty safe to say that Brie Larson will be winning big tonight.
Actress in a Supporting Role: Alicia Vikander, The Danish Girl
While there is still a chance that Kate Winslet could get this, I think I am going to agree with the SAG Awards and choose Vikander to win, even though she is in the wrong category.
That wraps up my predictions in the major categories, here are the rest:
