Movies of the Moment – October 2007

It’s been a little under a year and a half, since my last MotM column. As a refresh, in this column I will list what films in the coming month that I am most likely to see, as well as films I am most likely to skip. As a new addition, I will feature a film that is my top pick of the month.

Let’s get started.

Feature Film October 2007
30 Days of Night poster30 Days of Night – October 19
This vampire film looks to be poised be the first real post-Grudge success for Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures. I also have to say that I really like the film’s creepy trailer. Hopefully this film will bring the scares in addition to the gore.

Other Picks for the Month

Heartbreak Kid – October 5
A little over 9 years ago, a little comedy called There’s Something About came out, which was the breakthough hit for both and the Farrelly Brothers. The Farrelly’s didn’t really have much success since, so hopefully reuniting with Stiller will bring back the magic.

Lars and the Other Girl – October 12
This was a film that played at TIFF that I wish I could have seen. As such, I will probably check it out when it hits theatres.

May Consider

Michael Clayton – October 12
This legal drama seems intriguing.

Rendition – October 19
I would only see this film because I like , otherwise I’ll probably skip it for, the more “true to the season,” 30 Days of Night.

Not Really Interested

The Seeker: The Dark is Rising – October 5
It seems that every children’s fantasy novel is being adapted these days. Even ones that I’ve never really heard of.

Saw IV – October 26
I am not seeing this for a few reasons. First, I haven’t seen the first three, and the only one of those that I probably would ever want to see is the first one. Second, I am not a fan of the so-called “torture porn,” where the goal is to find more creative and gruesome ways at killing people. Third, the series should have ended as a trilogy. I now fear that Saw will join other horror franchises with being “sequeled to death.”
