It’s that time again. He are the movies that I think will be sure hits, probable misses, and intriguing curiosities.
Sure Hits
War of the Worlds
Steven Speilberg basically began the tradition of blockbuster summer movies with Jaws 30 years ago. Now he is doing it again. This is definitely one of the must-see films of the season.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
There are a lot of purists out there (original Willy Wonka, Gene Wilder among them), that would prefer it if there wasn’t a remake coming out. Though from my point of view, this is just a second adaptation of the book instead of a full-fledged remake (just look at how different the Oompa-Loompas look). I have been a fan of Tim Burton for a long time, and I would see this movie with or without Willy Wonka.
Wedding Crashers
If only Charlie and the Choclate Factory wasn’t opening at the same time, I would definitely be seeing this opening weekend. This looks to be another funny comedy from that little clique of actors that keep appearing in each other’s movies (Old School, Starsky and Hutch, Anchorman, and Dodgeball).
Probable Misses
Rebound
This is the only film coming out this month that has “flop” painted all other it. Martin Lawrence really should stick to stand-up.
Intriguing Curiosities
Dark Water
While the trailer wasn’t too impressive, the TV spots I saw shows that this movie might be worth checking out. Not sure if it will be in the theatre though.
Fantastic Four
Fantastic Four goes forth on Marvel Comics I like (after Spider-Man and X-Men). This movie doesn’t look awful, but it doesn’t look the best either. The jury is still out on whether I will see this (maybe at the discounted price).
Undead
Another Zombie movie? Boy have there been a lot of these in the last few years. This looks like it’s one of the more freaky ones.
The Island
Can Michael Bay successfully go from action to sci-fi? Only time will tell. I am a fan of Ewan McGregor though.
Sky High
Interesting plot and trailer, but it may end up being too campy for it’s own good.
