Hard to believe that we are only a few days away from the start of the 2017 Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival. My advanced reviews will begin popping up tomorrow, but I thought I would start off by listing a few of the films that I am excited to see during the festival.
Whitney “Can I Be Me” (Nick Broomfield and Rudi Dolezal, UK)
Bill Nye: Science Guy (David Alvarado and Jason Sussberg, USA)
For the past two decades, Bill Nye was synonymous will the combination of science with entertainment. However, in recent years Bill Nye has made it his quest to fight back against those who question science.
Becoming Bond (Josh Greenbaum, USA)
A look at George Lazenby. The only man to play James Bond just once.
78/52 (Alexandre O. Philippe, USA)
You know a scene in a film is iconic when it gets a full documentary made about it. That is exactly what 78/52 does with the shower scene of Psycho.
Nobody Speak: Trials of the Free Press (Brian Knappenberger, USA)
The Hulk Hogan lawsuit against Gawker is at the centre of this film about the risks of speaking truth to power.
