Melissa Toussaint
Biography
Melissa Toussaint is a Television and Film actress known for her strong, honest and at times sardonic performances.
Born in Montréal, Melissa's formative years were spent with relatives in Haiti during the height of Jean-Claude « Baby Doc » Duvalier's reign of terror. The mix of conflict, colonialism, mysticism, and death had a profound and lasting effect on Melissa. An effect that can be seen in her performances - strong yet vulnerable and raw.
Melissa made her acting debut in the web series B.J. Fletcher: Private Eye (2008) playing herself as a Model. She would later land her breakout role as the efficient yet boy-crazy Maggie Parnell in the television film Love Locks (2017) alongside Rebecca Romijin and Jerry O'Connell.
Melissa can also be seen in the Netflix series Bad Blood (2018) as bad-ass Detective Andrea, SQ, Nickelodeon's Snow Day (2022) as flustered Nurse Jhonson, and most recently, she played a loving foster mom Gloria on NBC's hit series Transplant (2023).
Melissa is a strong advocate for diversity in storytelling and championing alternate voices. She has collaborated, supervised and consulted on various films that aim to tell diverse stories and show diverse bodies in a manner that honors those voices. Films such as, Anais Barbeau Lavalette's Chien Blanc (2022) - an adaptation of the novel by French novelist Romain Gary, as well as the upcoming feature film - Le Derniers Repas (2024), which is one of the first Quebec/Haitian films that highlights the Hait
