DVD Picks – November 3, 2009

takingofpelham123 dvd

My top pick this week was a flip between The Taking of Pelham 123  (also on Blu-Ray) and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (also on Blu-Ray).  I decided to go with Pelham, since in the long run it is the more memorable of the two and I thought that it was a fun escapist film.    G.I. Joe on the other hand was not bad, even though it seemed that the whole film was setting up for a sequel.

If you weren’t satisfied with the length of the Director’s Cut, you can now get the 4 hour, 11 minute Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut (also on Blu-Ray), which includes Tales of the Black Freighter weaved into the plot.

Some Christmas films get the Blu-Ray treatment include the classic Alastair Sim version of A Christmas Carol, the 20th anniversary edition of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (one of my personal favourites), and the ensemble holiday-set romantic comedy Love Actually.

Rounding out the Blu-ray releases this week is a new Sapphire Series edition of Forrest Gump.

And that’s my DVD Picks for this week.
