Box Office Thoughts for the Weekend of July 11, 2008

Hellboy II posterIn the calm before the storm that is The Dark Knight, Hellboy II: The Golden Army debuted at the top of the box office. Here are the estimates:

  1. Hellboy II: The Golden Army – $35.9M
  2. Hancock – $33M
  3. Journey to the Center of the Earth – $20.6M
  4. WALL·E – $18.5M
  5. Wanted – $11.6M
  6. Get Smart – $7.11M
  7. Meet Dave – $5.3M
  8. Kung Fu Panda – $4.3M
  9. Kit Kittredge: An American Girl – $2.36M
  10. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull – $2.25M

While the $35.9M isn’t a huge gross for Hellboy II, it is over $10M more than the first film made in 2004.

Hancock dropped to second place with $33M, which brings its total $165M.

In what will likely be its final week in the top ten, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull made another 2.25M bring it’s total to $310M, which is now only $3M away from catching up with Iron Man.

And that’s the box office thoughts for this week.

The other new opening of the week, Journey to the Center of the Earth, opened in third place with $20.6M. I would be curious to know how many of those were from 3D screenings.
