Movie News Worth Sharing 2/22 – Rush Hour 4, Black Panther Box Office, Star Wars: Episode 9 Shooting Date

Here is my round-up of movie news around the web that interests me.

in Production

(Source: ScreenCrush) It is being reported that both and are on board for a fourth entry in the popular Rush Hour franchise. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the first Rush Hour film, with the franchise as a whole being arguably Jackie Chan's biggest success in North America. However, a small hiccup in the plans for a fourth Rush Hour movie is director Brett Ratner, who is one of the many filmmakers to be accused of sexual harassment in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal. As such, until cameras begin rolling, it remains to be seen whether Rush Hour 4 will truly become a reality.

tops Avengers for Highest MCU Wednesday Gross

(Source: Variety) Things are shaping up for Black Panther to be one of the highest grossing films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film made $14.5 million on Wednesday, topping the $13.6 million The Avengers earned on the same day in 2012. The film is already expected to pass the $500 million mark worldwide and it is probably safe to say that Black Panther will be one the highest grossing films of the year, despite it only being February.

Star Wars: Episode 9 Shooting in July

(Source: /Film) It is being reported the J.J. Abrams has finished the script for Star War: Episode 9 and that the film is expected to begin filming at the end of July. After directing Star Wars: The Force Awakens, J.J. Abrams returned to direct Episode 9 after the departure of original director Colin Trevorrow last year. Last year's Star Wars: The Last Jedi, directed by Rian Johnson was arguably one of the most divisive films in the franchise, with hardcore fans being unhappy with Johnson's story decisions. J.J. Abrams is expected to build upon Johnson's contributions to the Star Wars saga with this final entry of the new trilogy.
