A man tried to find out how his grandfather died in . Bernie Langille is a man who never met his namesake grandfather, who died under mysterious circumstances in 1968, 15 years before Bernie was even born. One day Bernie feels compelled to find out what happened to his grandfather, the death of whom still has an effect on his family.

Bernie Langille Wants to Know What Happened to Bernie Langille is a somewhat quirky true-crime documentary by director Jackie Torrens. The film utilizes miniatures to recreate the events that led to the death of Corporal Bernard L Langille, who was unexpectedly found bleeding in bed. Bernie Langille talks to his family members to try and paint a picture of the events and figure out if his grandfather was murdered or if it was just a tragic accident as the official investigation concluded.

It is undoubtedly the use of miniatures that helps Bernie Langille Wants to Know What Happened to Bernie Langille stand apart from similar documentaries about cold cases. While there are many interesting twists to this case, such as an abusive military doctor and the possibility that Bernie Lagille’s grandfather came back from the Korean war with PTSD, the film is ultimately about Bernie Langille trying to get closer to the grandfather he never knew and alleviating some of the pain that still affects his family.
