A lonely man develops an unhealthy obsession over a webcam model in Streamer. Jared (Jared Bratt) is a lonely aspiring filmmaker, who spends his time recording video blogs about how he’s still a virgin at 28 and browsing webcam porn sites. Jared becomes particularly interested in a camgirl named “Ivy” (Tanya Lee), especially after he discovers that she lives in his building. The two strike up a friendship, which feeds into Jared’s fantastical connection with her. However, when it starts to seem like Jared’s feelings won’t be reciprocated, this crush turns into a full-on obsession.
What if you went into your building’s laundry room one day and see a girl that you recognize from an internet sex show? How would you respond to knowing that your anonymous online fantasies can possibly spill into reality? That is the question being asked by the film Streamer, which is in many ways a cautionary tale about knowing the line between fantasy and reality and how someone should keep their expectations in check.
Streamed is not really a horror film per se, but it is somewhat disturbing watching how obsessed Jared becomes of “Ivy,” particularly as he talks to her during her cam shows, after he has met her in person. Tanya Lee probably has the biggest challenge in the film, as she has to portray a noticeable difference between her promiscuous webcam persona and the person who she really is. Streamed is a film that is going to make you want to think twice about spending late nights online.
