Dicks: The Musical Synopsis

Dicks: The Musical is a musical comedy directed by Larry Charles (Borat) and written by and starring Aaron Jackson and Josh Sharp, based on their two-man off-broadway musical F***ing Identical Twins. Narrated by a homosexual interpretation of God (Saturday Night Live‘s ), the plot is a very loose rift on the basic premise of The Parent Trap. Newly discovered identical twins Craig and Trevor switch places to try and get their parents to reunite. However, the union is not that simple, as Trevor learns his father Harris is gay and keeps two Sewer Boys as pets, while Craig discovers his mother Evelyn is wheelchair bound with a lisp and missing part of her anatomy.

My Thoughts on Dicks: The Musical

Dicks: The Musical begins with titles stating that the film was “bravely written by two homosexuals playing straight men.” That sets the tone for what is probably one of the dirtiest film musicals to ever hit the screen, with heavily profane and sexual lyrics and much anatomical humour. The result is a film that is not for the prudish, particularly with some plot twists that happen late in the film.

Arguably, the most memorable element of Dicks: The Musical for me is less the songs and more the Sewer Boys kept as pets by Harris. Portrayed practically by puppetry, it is completely absurd at one point watching Harris feed the Sewer Boys by spitting ham at them. I almost wish that the Sewer Boys were more of a focus of the film.

Altogether, Dicks: The Musical is definitely not a film for everyone, but those that do get it will likely have a good time.
