baaghi

An Indian martial arts expert travels to Thailand to save the woman he loves in . Ronny () is a rebellious youth, who is shipped off to the Kalaripayattu Academy in the town of Kerala, in order to control his violent temper. Along the way, he meets the beautiful Sia () and the two quickly fall for each other. However, Sia is also the object of affection for the Academy Master’s son Raghav (Sudheer Babu), who kidnaps Sia and brings her to Bangkok. Ronny is hired by Sia’s father to go to Thailand and rescue Sia.

Baaghi is a film that mixes a typical Bollywood love story with some high intensity martial arts action. At the centre of the film is Indian actor and martial artist Tiger Shroff, who plays the lead protagonist Ronny. Featuring a narrative that moves back and forth through time, Baaghi begins with the love story between Ronny and Sia, before moving to the high octane action quest to rescue Sia from Ronny’s rival Raghav.

It is only in India that you can get a film like Baaghi, which spends more than an hour on a romantic story, complete with Bollywood musical numbers, before the film turns into a high octane martial arts action film. In fact, Baaghi‘s final act, which takes place in a Bangkok apartment complex, is more or less an exact remake of The Raid, with the film featuring many of the same action beats. Despite having a non-chronological narrative that switches between multiple genres, Baaghi ended up being an entertaining piece of Indian cinema.
