The story of fashion designer Zac Posen is told in House of Z. Beginning his career at a very young age, Zac Posen had a quick rise to the top of the fashion industry. Through his family-run label, Posen attracted the attention of Hollywood celebrities and hip-hop moguls. However, Zac Posen’s early fame would soon get to his head and a number of missteps threaten to derail his budding career.
In House of Z, director Sandy Chronopoulos chronicles the career of fashion designer Zac Posen, which almost collapsed as a result of Posen’s perfectionist attitude. The film features a number of familiar faces giving interviews about Posen, including Paz de la Huerta, Claire Daines, and Sean “Diddy” Combs. The film tracks the ups and downs of Zac Posen’s career, climaxing with a show that will either bring him back to the top or send him crashing down.
I will be first to admit that I don’t quite get the fashion industry and there are many elements to it that I find quite tacky and shallow. However, Zac Posen’s story is a relatable one about a guy who has huge ambition and creativity, which eventually gets the best of him. Even though the film eventually becomes about whether or not an extravagant teal dress will make it into a fashion show, this fashion documentary is still better than expected.
