Game Changers

Elite athletes receive health benefits from plant-based diets in . is and elite military trainer and winner of The Ultimate Fighter. After an injury, Wilks looks into diet options to help with his rehabilitation and comes across a study revealing that Roman Gladiators were predominantly vegetarians. This results in Wilks deciding to give a plant-based diet a try and ends up being quite surprised by the results.

From Oscar-winning filmmaker Louie Psihoyos (The Cove), The Game Changers is a film that follows James Wilks and other elite athletes, as they discover the health benefits of plant-based diets and dispel the myths of high protein meat-based diets. Some of the athletes featured in the film include endurance runner Scott Jurek, 400-meter sprinting champion Morgan Mitchell, German strongman Patrik Baboumian, and even Arnold Schwarzenegger.

It is easy to look at the premise for The Game Changers and think “oh no, not again” in regards to another film promoting plant-based diets. However, for the most part, The Game Changers sticks purely to the health benefits of a planet-based diet. This results in the film being not that particularly preachy or shaming you if you are a meat eater. If fact, this film actually had me rethinking my own person diet. My only real criticism of The Game Changers is that it often felt like an infomercial for plant-based diets, with lots of athlete and celebrity endorsements. However, it’s a still a documentary that is worth watching.
