Content Advisory: Suicide
A teenage vampire finds herself unwilling to kill humans for their blood in Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person. Sasha (Sara Montpetit) is a 68-year-old “teenage” vampire, who finds herself feeling more empathy towards humans than seeing them as food. One night Sasha encounters suicidal teenager Paul (Félix-Antoine Bénard), who is completely willing to be Sasha’s victim. First, Sasha helps Paul fulfil his dying wish by enacting vengeance on those who mistreat him.
Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person Synopsis
Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person is a twist on the typical teenage vampire romance and the debut feature by Quebecois filmmaker Ariane Louis-Seize. The film stars Sara Montpetit (Falcon Lake) as teenage vampire Sasha, who finds her fangs triggered by empathy rather than hunger. Sasha’s worried parents, one of whom is played by Viking‘s Steve Laplante, sends her to say with her sociopathic cousin Denise (Noémie O’Farrell) to try and unlock a killer instinct. However, Sasha instead befriends suicidal bullied teen Paul, who turns out to be the only person who can trigger Sasha’s fangs.
My Thoughts on Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person
There’s a lot of similarities that can be found between Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person and 2021’s Kicking Blood, as both films feature vampire protagonists who view humans with empathy rather than as a source of food. The difference with Ariane Louis-Seize‘s film is that the tongue is firmly in cheek with the film’s vampire antics, such as the opening scene where a child Sasha is traumatized by her family eating a birthday clown. The film’s quirky comedy, along with a few surprisingly bloody moments, helps Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person be more than just another Twilight clone.
