Machete

If nothing else, is a good demonstration of Robert Rodriguez’s skills as an editor.  What began as a faux-trailer in Grindhouse is now a full-fledged film.  Most of the footage from that trailer reappears in this film with the newly shot footage and the transition seems flawless.

As for the film itself, it’s definitely a “check your brain at the door” flick with the story basically there as a means to move from one hyper-violent action scene to the next (not that it’s necessarily a bad thing).

I almost sort of wished that the film was packaged (with another film) as an official sequel to Grindhouse, but I suppose that would be too risky.  Still enjoyable though.
