Unauthorized: The Harvey Weinstein Project

Unauthorized

Being both a film fan and a documentary fan, I love it when there are documentaries about films.   just opened today for a run at the Bell Lightbox and it’s a, Canadian-produced, documentary about the infamous Hollywood figure Harvey Weinstein.

As the title suggests, the film wasn’t made with Weinstein’s full consent, however I thought that the film tried to be as objective as possible about his career.  The film covers Weinstein’s entire careers from his time as a concert promoter, to his run as one of the top distributors of independent films, to his troubled years after leaving Miramax, to his recent resurgence with the success of The King’s Speech.

I thought it was a very interesting documentary about one of the most intriguing figures from the last 30 years of film.  I quite enjoyed it.

9/10

Being the first night, director Barry Avrich was on hand for a Q&A after the film, which is always one of my favourite aspects about seeing films at the Bell Lightbox.
