Probably one of the most famous biblical comedies out there is Monty Python‘s Life of Brian. I don’t think that Year One can really be compared to that film, however I do say that the biblical jokes were some of the best parts of this film.
In fact the film can be summed up in three parts: village antics at the beginning, a series of biblical vignettes, and then finally settling into the main storyline of the film, which is so-so at best.
I do say that I found Jack Black and Michael Cera quite funny throughout the film, even though there was a bit too much toilet humour.
It’s probably not the worst comedy Harold Ramis has directed, but it’s also not the best.
