A Filipino housekeeper and single mother about her new employer and her dying uncle in Raging Grace. Joy (Max Eigenmann) is an undocumented Filipino immigrant in London who is working as a housekeeper to earn enough money to pay for citizenship for herself and her young daughter Grace (Jaeden Paige Boadilla). Joy is asked to check up on the wealthy, yet bedridden, Nigel Garrett (David Hayman), who is dying of cancer. Joy comes across Garrett’s niece Katherine (Leanne Best), who ends up hiring Joy as the new live-in housekeeper. Joy has to keep Grace a secret from her new employer, but both mother and daughter begin to suspect something is off about Katherine and Mr. Garrett.
Raging Grace Synopsis
Raging Grace is a slow-burning horror film written and directed by Paris Zarcilla. Filipino housekeeper Joy believes she has received the chance of a lifetime when she is hired to look after a large London estate. However, there is something off about her employer Katherine and the way she is taking care of her uncle. In addition, Joy’s daughter Grace sees Katherine sleepwalking at night to a strange room in the attic. Soon Joy makes a dark discovery that threatens to destroy everything she has strived for.
My Thoughts on Raging Grace
At the core of Raging Grace is the relationship between Joy and her daughter Grace, the latter of whom likes playing tricks on her mother. Joy wants to do everything to provide for her daughter, though doesn’t like talking too much about Grace’s father. I don’t want to give a way the revelations of Raging Grace, but the film ends up being an interesting commentary about the reliance on immigrants for support jobs, while also having a vague supernatural horror element to the story, particularly in the climax.
